Mayfield Farms Fall Festival: Family Fun, New Adventures, and Accessibility Insights

On October 5th, we spent the evening at Mayfield Farms Fall Festival, and it was such an incredible experience. If you’re a military family or a first responder, they offer a great discount, which is a nice touch of appreciation. Of course, one of the first things we indulged in was their ice cream—top-notch! Logan went for black cherry, and from the way he devoured it, we could tell it was a winner.

As always, we brought his stroller and headphones to help manage any sensory overload, but we were pleasantly surprised by the low crowd that evening. Logan did so well walking around on his own, exploring everything the festival had to offer.

One of the best parts? The apple cannon. Paul took the lead and showed Logan how to load, aim, and fire. They both loved it—it was such a fun father-son moment. Another favorite was the giant yellow balloon that Logan could not get enough of! And let’s not forget the huge bubbles. Paul helped him blow the biggest ones I’ve ever seen, and their laughter was contagious.

The obstacle course was another hit. Paul went through it with Logan, showing him how to tackle each part. Logan kept calm and focused, which was wonderful to see. He also loved playing on the tire swing, crawling over the half-buried tires, and spending what felt like hours in the dried corn sandbox. Seriously, we almost couldn’t get him out of there! He even braved the slide with Paul, making for some great memories.

There were these large things you could stand and roll inside, and of course, we couldn’t leave without tackling the medium-hard corn maze, which added a fun little adventure to our day. On our way out, we picked up some local honey—something we’d been searching for forever!

For families with children on the spectrum, while they don’t have specific accommodations for kids with autism, I’d recommend visiting earlier in the day or early in the season when it’s less crowded. We were there around 6 PM, and it wasn’t too overwhelming for Logan, but I could see how a busier time might be more challenging.

In terms of wheelchair accessibility, my power scooter did great overall. The only issues were in areas with loose gravel and a few unexpected holes in the grass. If I’d brought my manual chair, it probably would’ve been tough, especially at the exit barn, where there’s a lip to navigate. While it’s doable in a manual chair by popping a wheelie, it’s trickier with a scooter. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to check out the bathrooms, so I can’t speak to their accessibility.

All in all, it was a great day filled with new experiences for Logan—he tried so many things and loved every moment. Ever since, he’s been asking to go back to “Halloween,” which makes me think this festival will become a yearly tradition for us.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, and for those of you in Florida, I pray you’ve made your preparations and are staying safe. We’re thinking of you! ♥
